Strand or loose stones?

A raw diamond strand is pre-drilled and ready to be strung on wire, nylon, or chain – it's the quickest way to create a bracelet or necklace, and you determine the length yourself. Loose raw diamonds are sold in smaller bags and are used when the stone needs to be set, glued into a bezel, or mounted as a single stone in a ring.

Why Rough Diamonds vs. Cut Diamonds?

A cut diamond is faceted for maximum sparkle. A rough diamond retains its natural crystal form, so no two stones are alike: colour, shape, and surface vary within the same strand. This variation gives jewellery an organic look – and the price per carat is significantly lower than for cut stones.

Assembly and Tools

  • Use beading wire with crimp beads for strands that need to hold their shape.
  • For everyday bracelets, 0.8–1.0 mm elastic cord or beading wire works best.
  • Diamonds scratch everything else – store jewellery separately from silver, pearls, and soft stones.
  • The holes in rough diamond strands are small; check thread thickness before ordering.

Care

Rough diamonds can tolerate water and soap, but the metal components and cord they are set on may not. Wipe the jewellery with a soft, slightly damp cloth and allow it to dry completely. Avoid ultrasonic cleaning for jewellery where stones are glued.

Are rough diamonds real diamonds?

Yes. Rough diamonds are natural diamonds that have not been faceted. They have the same mineral composition and hardness (10 on the Mohs scale) as cut diamonds – the only difference is the processing.

Why are rough diamonds cheaper than cut diamonds?

Cutting incurs both labour costs and material loss, as a large portion of the stone is cut away. Rough diamonds are sold as they come from nature, and our selection also includes smaller sizes and industrial grades – which is why the price per stone is significantly lower.

Can two strands look identical?

No. Colour, shape, surface, and size vary from stone to stone and from strand to strand. The measurements on the product page are indicative, and the image shows an example of how the strand typically looks.

Can rough diamonds be used in engagement rings?

Yes, this is one of their most common uses. Diamond is the hardest natural material and can withstand daily wear. Choose a stone with a flat side if it needs to be glued or set in a ring.

Which thread is suitable for rough diamond strands?

The holes are small, so use thin beading wire, nylon, or silk thread. For bracelets, we recommend beading wire with crimp beads and a clasp, so the strand holds its shape.
